The x in x-ray stands for

 

X-rays was discovered by Roentgen.

▪ During his cathode ray tube experiment, He shielded thetube with black paper.

▪ He found that an some object near the table turned flourescent.

▪ He knew that some unknown rays were emitted from shielded ray tube. As in algebra where we name unknown variable ro be x , He called the unknown radiation to be X ray.
